With Out Me is an exploration of the insignificance of the existence of a single human life. Standing alone in a space, empty but for a microphone stand, a woman recites a list of all the things that will remain after she is gone. The work is also an exercise in being present. Every sentence added to the list emphasizes this woman’s potential absence by the repetition of the words ‘without me’, while at the same time she becomes more visible, with every phrase. The lighting design was a single composed movement in which the woman and then the space slowly become visible.
