Árida is the third performance developed from the collaboration between choreographer Maria Ramos and myself, exploring our idea of the theatre space as landscape in action. Árida takes the qualities of arid landscapes; vastness, wind, extremes of heat and light and uses them to create a space into which both the dancer and audience are immersed. Surrounded by unpredictable and at times extreme conditions, the dancer seeks to find a space for herself within these elements. At times, she is absent from the stage, but the choreographic momentum does not cease, it continues with the movement of wind, smoke, light, dust ...
