For the first edition of Club Éclectique at Het Huis Utrecht, I presented the work HOME | pilot. It is an installation using the sensory showers, in which a composition of sensory stimulus can be experienced on different levels; audibly and visually, as well as through the perceptual, physiological and emotional effects they stimulate. The showers create little bubbles of atmosphere, which are almost physical, through the use of highly directional sound, vibrations and light. By stepping onto the platform, the audience activates the sensory compositions and come into the physical range where they can be experienced.
This work explores the physiological and perceptual effects of light, sound and smell, and uses them to create atmospheric, narrative spaces that slip underneath rational understanding, to effect the body and mind on an associative level. HOME | pilot creates an associative narrative based on the experience of losing your home and place in the world. It has at its core three sensory compositions that create different states of being; Home/comfort, fear/disorientation and a dream-like state of melancholy.
