This piece was situated on water with a floating, turning tribune. As the performers were separated from the audience by water, communication became a necessary function of the lights. I made a matrix using fluorescent light that the performers interacted with to form words and images in light, which they used to speak to the audience.
We also developed the storyline that one of the characters was an artist who painted with light. In her studio she threw buckets of water, in which were fitted twelve-volt lamps and colour filters, which created the idea she was throwing coloured light. When combined with the light programming, this enabled her to paint the whole building.
