What first appears as five gay people trying to be funny becomes a sharp investigation of bravado and honesty in a time when everything you think should be said. The light design aimed to create an ambiguous space, playing with the form of stand up comedy, giving the appearance of open and direct communication between the performers and the audience, while at the same time giving the feel of an 80’s nightclub, with its potent mix of desire and loneliness being played out in the shadows. Stand Up, Lie Down was nominated for the 2015 VSCD mimeprijs.
